Seattle, part 1

Our flight to Seattle left from Orlando at 7:05 am Saturday, and it usually takes us 1.5 hours to get over there. That'd mean leaving here at 3:30 am to get there "in time" for our flight (Orlando's TSA lines are notoriously long, and with 15 people I was not taking my chances). If I wanted to meet the bus from the school, I'd have to leave my house at 2:30 in the morning - no fun!

To avoid waking up before 2:00 am, we drove to Orlando at around 8 pm on Friday. Most of the traffic was gone, and it took us under 2 hours to get there. This meant I got to sleep in a bed I recognize but didn't have to get up super early. I woke up at 4:15 and made it to the airport before the bus from the school.

Our 6 hour flight went off pretty smoothly. I'm not a huge fan of flying, since I usually get pretty bad motion-sickness. We even got a free meal!

I don't know why this picture won't rotate...

I couldn't watch much TV because of the motion sickness AND the fact that I'd forgotten my headphones. Later in the flight it got better and I was able to watch Bohemian Rhapsody on my iPad.

We landed in Seattle and it was a beautiful day. We took a bus tour for a few hours, stopping at some incredible yet touristy sights.

We went to the Starbucks Roastery

Pike Place Market

... and of course the Gum Wall, which grossed me out really badly the first day but not so much the second time I saw it.

Kelly Park

and GasWorks park! I told you it was a BEAUTIFUL day!

We came back to the hotel and got into our rooms. The whole group walked down to Pike Place Market, but almost everything on the way and back was closed (on a Saturday night! Blasphemy!) There were several restaurants that were 21+, which I found very odd (and inconvenient, given the fact that we had students with us on this trip). We wound up at a terrible restaurant near the market with a chef who basically refused to serve me anything because "nothing we have is gluten free". Like bro not even your lettuce? I was LIVID. They gave me a plate of lettuce and I gave them a bad review online.

But then I got some sleep and had a great day 2 in Seattle!

We started off back at Pike Place Market. With a clearer day, we could see so many beautiful mountains!

Including Mount Rainier, kinda...

I'll spare you a second gum wall picture, but...

It was really beautiful out. After spending about 2 hours there, we walked to the Space Needle.

I loved it.

Beautiful views, for real

Then we went next door to the Chihuly Garden and Glass, which... was also just incredible.

After the gardens but before dinner we went over to Lake Union where I tried to ride a Lime bike and ate it.

... but it was really beautiful.

That night we went to dinner at a local pizza place. I don't remember what it was called, but it was very tasty! I drank local kombucha and ate delicious gluten-free pizza.

The next day was our first day meeting employers where we visited Boeing (before all the drama!) and Microsoft. to be continued...
